A brief history of VN Tractrors INc

VN Tractors Inc, Dallas, was established in 2002 by Leon Hoang. For as long as he can remember, Leon has always had his hands in the family business. His brother, Doug Hoang, who is the founding member and CEO of VN Tractors, Inc., Vietnam, has been in the tractor business for over 20 years.

The Hoang Family started out selling one-cylinder diesel tractors and small rotary tiller machines to local farmers in Vietnam. As the economy in Vietnam grew, so did their family business. The farming industry in Vietnam boomed, and there was a need for larger farming equipment. That led Doug to the United States, first to visit his younger brother Leon who was then attending college in Seattle, Washington, and second to look into purchasing used John Deere and Ford tractors. Doug went to a few of the heavy equipment auctions where he came across older Yanmar tractors that were up for bid. He bid for the tractors, but the price was way too high to bring them back to Vietnam and still make a profit.

From this trip, he came to realize that his tractor market was no longer in Vietnam, but in the U.S. Arriving back in Vietnam, Doug started to concentrate on reconditioning used Japanese compact tractors and in 1998, VN Tractors in Vietnam was officially exporting reconditioned tractors into the U.S.

A few years after graduating from college, Leon was asked to open up a second distributing facility. The first one was open in Atlanta, Georgia, and is headed by one of Leon’s 4 older brothers. After doing some market research and a making some hard choices, Leon picked Dallas to be his next office because its geographically in the center of it all. He was right. Two years after opening its door, VN Tractors Inc. has a long list of dealers from all regions in the U.S., and it continues to grow. He credits this success to the more than 300 hard-working employees in Vietnam who dedicate their time and effort into reconditioning these used tractors back to their original working condition.

The parent company in Vietnam is undisputedly the largest reconditioning plant in all of Southeast Asia. This affords the Hoang Family some of its country’s best mechanics and technicians.

Currently, VN Tractors Inc., distributes between four to five thousand tractors throughout the U.S. alone. The demand is continuing to grow as users realize that the compact Japanese tractors might not be a strong and powerful as some of the very expensive larger U.S. made tractors, but they are very reliable, economical and have plenty of power for land that's 1-20 acres in size.
